Day 11 (The Gang’s Western Trip)

Tuesday, October 9, 2007, Day 11

First we need to start with a correction. Paula and Carol were not “just sleeping” in the RV instead of writing the log. We did a daily entry until we arrived at Ed’s and chose to visit instead of writing a log. In fact, we have a rather incriminating picture of Dennis with his eyes shut and mouth wide open catching flies on Ed’s couch. This, in fact, was a daily occurrence. Paula was actually able to get two photos during which Dennis never flinched, however, he claimed he was not sleeping.

Now, back to the log. After some discussion with some of Ed’s friends who know the area quite well, we decided to change our route and head down the west side of the Rockies. We left Ed’s this morning about 7:45 heading west to Whitehall, Montana then south through Idaho and Utah. We traveled through some of the most beautiful countryside we have ever seen. The sun was shining brightly on the snow-capped mountains and everywhere you looked one scene was more beautiful than the last. Paula and I made sandwiches and Bob and Denny continued to drive down to Brigham City, Utah where we stopped for the night at a KOA. They drove 554 miles today.

The gas problem returned – every time the tank got down to 1/2, the engine slows down and chugs. A nearby Ford garage is going to “slip us in” tomorrow to get this checked. It is possible that our fuel pump needs to be replaced. We are presently at Westland Ford in Ogden, Utah. After speaking with the service tech, it sounds like it is the fuel pump. We are sitting in the lounge patiently waiting.

Hope all is well, wherever you are. Stayed tuned for more interesting tidbits from the Griswalds.
