Day 6, October 3, 2007 (The Gang’s Western Trip)

We hadn’t heard back from theSunCoast dealer so we called again in the morning.  They said they had not heard back from Fleetwood but we could go and see if the batteries were dead and if so, they would pay for new ones.  Bob and Denny took the RV to a mechanic at the recommendation of the owner of the campground.   After about a half an hour, the mechanic found a breaker switch that had tripped.  That was fixed and we were back on the road. Thank God for little miracles, we need continuous DC power to maintain the refrigerator when we are not hooked up to AC power.

We went to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD.  The outside of the building is covered with corn and grains that are grown locally making up huge murals.  The 2007 theme is a Salute to Rodeo.  The theme changes every year and they were already putting up the 2008 theme, which is a Salute to Everyday Heroes: Teachers (the number one hero), Doctors, Lab Technician, Firefighter, etc.  They have a large gym/auditorium that also have murals covering every wall.

Back on the road again and heading to Custer South Dakota to see Crazy Horse, and Mt. Rushmore.  It was very windy again so we didn’t make very good time.  All of a sudden the RV slowed right down and was hesitating.  To make a long story short, we had a gas problem – that is the RV had a gas problem. We got a bad batch of gas at the Sinclair station in Mitchell. We stopped two times to put in additional gas and Denny added a gas treatment. It worked for about a half a tank then the jugging started all over again. We called our “consulting” mechanic, Randy Raynor, Paula and Denny’s son-in-law who agreed it was probably bad gas and said we needed to put some dry gas in and fill the tank with the highest octane for the next two fillings.  Randy was right on. On the way we stopped at Wall Drug in South Dakota and drove through the Bad Lands. It was pretty amazing to see.  Finally, we were off to our campsite for the night.  By this time we were all ready for a drink!
