Day 4, October 1, 2007 (The Gang’s Western Trip)

Day 4, October 1, 2007

We slept in the parking lot last night. We had a pretty good rain – only one leak!  We got up and started loading the totes and anything we could find to pack.  At noon they told us we could transfer our “stuff” to the new RV and they would be back after lunch to do a walk through.  The conversation for the afternoon was mostly “where should I put this?  Stick this here, stick that there, put it in the belly.  The Coachman had more indoor storage but this has a very large belly storage area.  We were all amazed at how much we had packed into the Coachman.  As soon as we finished putting things in and the walk through was over, we got on the road.

We stopped in a rest area and had sandwiches and snacks for supper. Denny and Bob drove 300 miles in about 4 hours and we stopped for the night at a KOA in West Liberty Iowa.  Everyone was pooped except Denny who said he was buzzed. He took some advil to relax him and help fall asleep.

At 2:30 in the morning something stung my face and arm.  It sat right up and woke Bob up.  Paula saw something was wrong and came over.  My face hurt like $%#@&.  I spotted a yellow jacket that had landed on the wall next to Paula.  She reached in the bathroom and got some tissue and crushed it.  Thank God it stung me and not Bob.  He is allergic to yellow jacket venom.  I will be calling our office for a EPI pen to have for the rest of the trip.  Paula was the hero – she bagged the bee!
