Day 3, September 30th (The Gang’s Western Trip)
Day 3, September 30th
After we finished the log last night, we went inside the camper for the night. Paula and Denny were on the phone checking in with family, one call after another. Keep in mind that Bob does not particularly like the phone to begin with. I think at sometime in his life he was told it was only for emergencies. Because we have close quarters in the RV, Bob slipped back onto “our” bed and worked his crossword puzzles. I went back to see how he was doing and he said, “I can’t imagine being on the phone that much. I opened my hip pack and checked my phone and I don’t even have a missed call.” While Paula talked on the phone, Denny hooked the computer up so we could watch a DVD. Bob started laughing about all the wires Denny had hooked up. He said, “Do you think we could find another place to stick a wire?” Once the calls were done we watched the DVD of Steve and Tina’s wedding. In order for us all to see well, Denny sat on the ladder. It was beautiful and Bob actually stayed awake until 11:45. He always falls asleep within the first 10 minutes of a movie and is never awake at 11:45 – not even on New Years Eve. We all enjoyed reliving the wedding.
We all had a little trouble sleeping that night because the trains continued throughout the night. In the morning we had leisurely breakfast and then headed to Wal-Mart and the “The Princess Laundry”. Denny was talking with his sister and realized we were only about 16 miles from Notre Dame so the guys decided that’s where we would spend the rest of the afternoon. I’m not exactly sure why, but these two guys seem to go in circles in this town. Paula and I couldn’t understand why they weren’t using the GPS but figured there must be a reason. Finally, Paula asked and they said, “we forgot about that!”
Notre Dame was beautiful. We visited the basilica first. On the way to the Grotto we came upon and out door mass that we joined in. After mass we went into the Grotto and lit candles. It was all very peaceful and spiritual. Our last stop was the bookstore where Denny and Bob bought T-shirts. Paula said she had never seen a bookstore that was so neat and had such a nice selection of merchandise. Thank you Carm and Rich for the suggestion. We decided that we would go back to Sun Coast RV and stay in their parking lot for the night so we could start packing first thing in the morning.
