Using Technology to Teach Every-day Lessons – Spelling
Day #1 – Students will read each spelling word and finger spell the words to
themselves.
- Post the spelling words on your web site (MyTeacherPages.com is a great hosting tool)
- Print out this finger spelling worksheet and give to each student
- Have your students finger spell the words that they are reading from your web site.
Day #2 – Students will create a word search with the spelling words using
Funbrain’s Word Turtle.
- Print out the spelling words for your students, or teach them how to copy and paste the words into QuickNote.
- Visit Word Turtle and input their words.
- Print out the generated word searches to practice.
Day #3 – Use the Alphabet Organizer to practice typing the words.
- Print out the spelling words for your students, or teach them how to copy and paste the words into QuickNote.
- Visit the Alphabet Organizer and have the students follow these directions:
- Type in their name
- The title should be the phonics skill they are working on (e.g. V-C-E)
- Click on Option 2
- In order to type using this organizer, you must click on a letter that
begins a spelling word. So for example, the word – scientist must be typed in the “S” section of the organizer. - When all words have been entered, print out the chart by:
- Clicking on the printer
- Clicking on Chart
- and then choosing Print or OK
Day #4 – Use the spelling words in a sentence
- Use the notetaking tool
- Students should enter their name and a title – the title should be the phonics skill they are working on.
- Watch the tutorial or skip it
- Click on Main Section and use one or two words in a sentence.
- Repeat Step 3 until all words have been used
- Click Finish and then print out the work
Day #5 – The Test
- Use the Alphabet Organizer or the Notetaking Tool or the Webbing Tool to have students record and print out their words.
