A Vision for Technology – the End Result

I think our world is getting a little closer to my vision with technology with devices like the iPhone and other mobile devices.  I think the vision for technology is simple.

The End Result:

One must be able to access information, process information and do something with that information at anytime and at any place.

Self-Directed Learning.

When we are connected wirelessly and in a cost efficient manner, almost everywhere, we will be in a position to really utilize the tools that the idea above specifies.

I want my 4 year old daughter to be able to look at a snail resting on my tomato plant my garden, take a picture of that snail (with her phone/computer/pda device) – send it to the “cloud” and get a response to what it is?
I want to my 7 year old son to be in a school where the TEACHING of reading encompasses these ideas.

  • The ability to look up words he does not know while reading on the web with the Dictionary-Tooltip
  • Utilize RSS feeds (Using Live Bookmark) for News – which includes bloggers, podcasters – for collaborative works
  • Collaborate with Google Documents and Spreadsheets
  • Use ScribeFire to post information on the fly to my son’s blog – to share with teachers, classmates – in the same room or across the globe
  • Use tools like Twitter to alert all teachers, parents and friends about his PRESENT schedule
