- Charters are granted by SED, SUNY and School Districts in NYS
- Some charters are unionized, others are not
- Charters can join NYSTRS
- They have to comply with all state regs as a district
- Funding
- kids have a dollar amount depending on where they live
- if parents choose a charter, 2/3 of that dollar amount goes to the charter (it could vary from 60 – 80%)
- 1/3 goes to the district

- Cap has been lifted to 200 schools total

- Show good faith effort to – must attract and retain special education and LEP
- Leave of Absence for teachers wanting to teach in charters extended to three years

- There is a parent liason who help parents with filling out applications for free and reduced lunches and helps to recruit
