Let’s Look it up on the Web! Words of a 4 year old.
My four year old daughter wants to sell lemonade and “butter” cookies at the end of my dead end street – that is funny in itself
She says to me, because the laptop is on my outdoor table,
Hey, we could look them up on the web!
So, I ask her, how are we going to look them up on the web? Here is her thinking:
- Just spell bu-tt-er cookies
- I then ask, where do we spell it and she points to the search box in gmail
- I do a search and find some links and ask, where do we go next? She says, “I don’t know.” Teachable moment here!
- So, I tell her that when she sees blue words that are underlined (using Google), those words are a link to a new web page where we might find a recipe for butter cookies
- Here is where Brooke decided to go – Basic Butter Cookies
Even though it is beautiful outside, my princess has spoken – we are off to make butter cookies – and we found the recipe on the web…duh

Hello Chris,
I just needed to share this cartoon with you after I read your blog entry! (Know that I often point to your site when I do demos for our Teacher Pages – you do a FABULOUS job! You must be a phenomenal teacher!) I posted the cartoon on my TP demo site:

I don’t know if it is copyrighted, so I put it behind a password – your daughter’s name.
Hope you (and Brooke) enjoy! Did she ever make any money selling the cookies and lemonade?
With warm regards,
Lynn
