4 Main Ways to use a Classroom Web Site
There are 4 main ways to use a classroom web site: They are:
-
To communicate
-
To instruct
-
To publish
-
For assessment
I am going to devote a posting to each of the four components. These next writings should get you thinking about what you need to include.
My Web site

I had Teachers through highschool especially that loved posing their weekly work on the schools webpage. The part of the postings that came most resourceful to the students is the links of resources and information that was posted alongside the homework information. This allowed all of the references to be right infront of you. Yet it kept some students from taking responsibility to make sure they noted their work, and would wait til the last minuet and say “well my computer wasnt working so i couldnt see what we had to do last night”. Technology can be benificial if it is used properly.

I think computers need to be used to help students help themselves…isn’t that what we’re doing here in 375? A good way for students to do this would be book reviews or ‘book talks’ on the classroom web page. The teacher could offer a new list of books to choose from each month. Students could read one or more books of their choice and write a review for their classmates. The review could be as simple as checkmarks on a graphic organizer or smiley faces to a predetermined set of questions for younger students to comprehend. This in turn becomes an assessment for the teacher to use and a informational tool to represent student work at parent-teacher conferences.

I think that allowing students to use technology to their benefit will only help them have a more positive future. By allowinng students to use computers as a way to complete assignments, communicate and test we are only making the education process a little bit more interesting. I know personally that their are some days I wish I could ask a teacher something while I was working on my homework, and a classroom website may allow students to have better communication with the teacher as well as other students.
